Position Summary

The Estimator/Project Manager is a key contributor to Oriole Landscaping’s success, responsible for preparing detailed proposals and ensuring project feasibility to support company sales objectives. This role requires staying current on material costs and resource planning to maintain profitability while delivering innovative landscape solutions tailored to client needs.

Acting as a central point of coordination, the Estimator/Project Manager oversees projects from initial concept through completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. They serve as the primary liaison between clients, crews, and contractors, providing leadership, clear communication, and strategic direction throughout the project lifecycle to deliver the signature Oriole Experience.

Key Responsibilities

Site Assessment & Estimating
    • Conduct site visits to verify grades, identify access challenges, and assess opportunities.
    • Perform accurate quantity take-offs from drawings.
    • Source materials and obtain subcontractor pricing.
    • Prepare and deliver precise estimates in a timely manner.
    • Compliance & Documentation
    • Confirm all necessary permits and adherence to local bylaws.
    • Maintain complete and accurate project documentation, including drawings, permits, contracts, locates, and shop drawings.
Client & Team Collaboration
    • Lead meetings with clients, crew leaders, and designers to ensure alignment.
    • Maintain clear communication with clients, crews, and subcontractors throughout the project.
    • Address concerns promptly and professionally to ensure smooth execution.
Project Leadership & Planning
    • Guide clients and internal teams through all phases: consultation, design development, estimating, and construction.
    • Delegate tasks effectively and provide leadership during project execution.
    • Review all projects during weekly Project Management Meetings.
Budget & Resource Management
    • Monitor project budgets and control costs.
    • Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
Quality Assurance & Risk Management
    • Identify potential risks and implement proactive solutions.
    • Uphold industry standards and exceed client expectations in workmanship and service.
Performance Tracking & Staff Development
    • Conduct weekly reviews of project metrics and progress.
    • Train other estimating staff as required.
    • Handle general office tasks and email correspondence as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
    • Certificate, degree or diploma in Landscape Design/Architecture or related work experience
    • Ability to read blueprints, make shop drawings
    • Proficient in Vector works (AutoCAD an asset)

Skills & Competencies

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Personable and comfortable meeting and speaking with clients and staff.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Organized and punctual.
  • Driver’s license and personal vehicle (considered as an asset).
  • Proficiency in designing, drawing concepts and construction drawings using Vector works or AutoCAD
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with a solid understanding of construction processes
  • Capable of developing and improving operational processes
  • SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Rendering

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, permanent position. Hours will range from 40 to 50 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The company works to provide long weekends off for all employees.

This position requires the applicant to be comfortable sitting for long periods of time and includes minor physical tasks (site visits for measuring).
