Job Summary

The Controller analyzes Oriole’s financial information and prepares financial reports by compiling information, preparing balance sheets and profit & loss statements, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures. The person is responsible for maintaining receivables, payables, and Government remittances. This is an internal accounting role within our private company. A professional accounting designation (CPA) is not required, as the position does not involve public accounting or regulated assurance services.

Job Duties

• Record, monitor, and analyze financial transactions to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Prepare internal financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) and provide supporting analysis for management decision-making.
• Develop and maintain accounting systems, controls, and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Analyze budgets and expenditures, monitor actual vs. budget performance, and prepare variance explanations with recommendations.
• Forecast short- and long-term cash flow requirements and prepare liquidity reports.
• Review and reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts (bank, receivables, payables, fixed assets, etc.) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including accruals, provisions, and depreciation.
• Prepare compliance-related reports, including tax filings and statutory remittances.
• Administer payroll, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, overtime, vacation entitlements, and deductions in compliance with employment standards.
• Ensure timely processing and release of employee payments, and prepare related government remittances and year-end reports.
• Liaise with external service providers, government agencies, and consultants on accounting, payroll, and compliance matters.
• Supervise and train junior accounting staff or administrative personnel in accounting systems and reporting procedures.
• Provide recommendations on cost-control measures, financial planning, and process improvements.
• May perform other duties as needed.

Education, Work Experience and Skills Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, required
• Must have a minimum of 3+ years of work experience in accounting or a closely related role
• Strong proficiency with accounting software and MS Office (QuickBooks, Excel), required
• Solid knowledge of Canadian accounting processes and procedures
• Strong oral and written English communication skills
