Position: Landscape Construction Crew Leader
Location: Toronto
Reports To: Project Manager
Oriole Landscaping is a mid-town Toronto design/build firm that focuses on
high-end residential installations. Oriole has been working diligently for over
38 years in the industry and continues to refine its business culture, landscape
construction and horticultural maintenance processes.
Job Summary
The landscape construction crew leader will perform tasks including reading
plans and job packages, site staging, ordering materials, coordinating
subtrades, directing and training staff on job site tasks, communicating and
working with the project manager and the client. The crew leader will
complete heavy landscape construction, site demolitions & excavations, hard
& soft installations and project budget reviews.
Job Duties
• Comply with Occupational Health & Safety Act regulations (see OHSA
S. 27: Duties of Supervisor).
• Review construction sites to identify and eliminate potential hazards.
• Responsible for ensuring all required PPE and safety equipment is used
by crew members.
• Responsible for job site safety inspections and toolbox talks.
• Train crew members to improve craftsmanship in horticulture,
hardscapes, softscapes, carpentry, masonry, equipment operation &
maintenance.
• Train crew members on optimal workflow to maximize efficiency and
productivity.
• Complete performance reviews with lead hand/driver and laborers.
• Complete daily progress reports and meetings on site with project
manager.
• Ability to drive a 5-ton or larger truck with trailer.
• Attentive to CBYD (Call Before You Dig) locate reports.
• Craftsperson on-site as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver’s License
• 10 years or more landscape construction experience
• Proficient at reading drawings, details, and following job packages
• Excavator, skid steer, articulated loader operation experience

Working Conditions
This is a full-time, seasonal position with the opportunity for a non-seasonal
position should it become available. Employees will be working outdoors in all
types of weather. The workday starts at 7am on site and 6:30am in the yard.
The hours will range from 45 to 55 per week, Monday to Friday and optional
Saturdays. The company works to provide long weekends off for all
employees.
This position requires an elevated level of personal organization and
motivation, and social intelligence. It is highly physical in nature and requires
the applicant to be able to lift weights of up to 50lbs and includes frequent
repetitive tasks. It also requires the applicant to have experience driving trucks
with trailers and operating excavators and skid steers.
Salary Range:
Varies from $30 to $45 per hour depending on skill set and experience.
