Position: Landscape Construction Lead Hand/Driver
Location: Toronto
Reports To: Crew leader
Oriole Landscaping is a mid-town Toronto design/build firm that focuses on
high-end residential installations. Oriole has been working diligently for over
38 years in the industry and continues to refine its business culture,
landscape construction and horticultural maintenance processes.
Job Summary:
The landscape construction lead hand will perform tasks involving heavy
landscape construction, site demolitions and excavation. The job will include
the operation of power tools, excavators, skid steers and articulated loaders,
handling and installing aggregate, precast paving and natural stone. Typically,
the lead hand is also the crew truck driver to and from the yard.
Job Tasks
• Right-hand to the crew leader, manages themselves & the crew to
execute tasks.
• Load and unload the crew truck at the yard and drive the crew truck
to the jobsite daily.
• Read plans, instructions, or work specifications to determine work
activities.
• Fill out yard purchase orders (PO#’s), circle checks on
trucks/equipment, inspect and sign off on deliveries, and return all
paperwork to the office on a weekly basis.
• Assists in completing daily paperwork including vehicle and machine
circle checks, purchase orders.
• Review construction sites to identify and eliminate potential hazards.
• Responsible for ensuring all required PPE and safety equipment is
used by crew members.
• Assists in completing performance reviews with crew leader and
laborers.
• Back-up or can assist in daily progress reports and meetings on site
with project manager.
Lines of Communication
Working Conditions
This is a full-time, seasonal position. Employees will be working outdoors in
all types of weather. The workday starts at 6am in the yard. Hours will range
from 55 to 60 per week, Monday to Friday and optional Saturdays. The
company works to provide long weekends off for all employees. Overtime
pay is provided for workweeks of more than 88 hours.
This position is highly physical and requires the applicant to lift weights of up
to 50lbs and includes frequent repetitive tasks. It also requires the applicant
to have experience operating excavators and skid steers.
Salary Range:
Varies from $22 to $30 per hour depending on skill set and experience.
